The Last Place(s) You Would Expect to See British Royalty Working

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s exit from their royalty roles has raised many eyebrows, with many wondering about their impending career change. If you thought that Britain’s Royal family members don’t have to work owing to their net worth of $88 billion, then you are mistaken.

Like a true monarch, they oversee several welfare measures and play a passive role in politics too. Plus, the Queen of the United Kingdom is vested with many reserve powers that make her one of the busiest people in Buckingham Palace.

While we cannot ascertain the exact nature of duties carried out by the royal elite, we can point out instances when they took jobs way below their pay grade.

Queen Elizabeth – Truck Mechanic

As an heir presumptive, Queen Elizabeth made history by becoming the first female member from the monarch to serve in the military. During the Second World War, she enlisted in the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service, serving as a truck driver and mechanic.

Prince Charles – Children’s book author

Before the birth of his kids, Prince Charles penned a book named ‘The Old Man of Lochnagar.’ It hit the shelves in the early 1980’s, bearing the author name ‘H.R.H. The Prince of Wales.’ Later, the BBC also came out with an animated cartoon and a stage adaptation of the book!

Prince William and Prince Harry – Extras On a Film Set

Both of them lived the dream of every ‘Star Wars’ fan after they got to play a small role in the ‘The Last Jedi.’ They visited the sets of the movie in 2016 when director Rian Johnson offered them the part of stormtroopers. Unfortunately, the scene was not in the final cut because of their respective 6’3 and 6’1 height—way taller than that of an average stormtrooper!

Princess Anne – Olympic Horseback Rider

Queen Elizabeth’s daughter was an abled equestrian who participated in the 1970 Olympics! Princess Anne managed to achieve a feat that no other woman from her family had pulled off until then.

Prince Edward – Production Assistant

After completing his service in the navy, Prince Edward joined the ‘Really Useful Theatre Company’ as an assistant. It gave him the experience to launch his own production house in later years.

Duchess of Cornwall – Beekeeper

In her spare time, the Duchess of Cornwall works as a beekeeper in the Ray Mill estate. Camilla also makes her own honey, which sells for $26 at Fortnum and Mason.

Prince Philip – Truffle Farmer

After being born with a silver spoon, farming is the last thing that we would expect Prince Philip to do. But the monarch worked tirelessly to become one of the few farmers to cultivate black truffles in the entire country.

It is indeed bizarre to see the royal family members working as a truck mechanic or as an assistant at a film set. In all fairness, they too might want to experience how the other half of the world lives!
